Nikki Reed says she plans to stay clear of Twitter because she fears she’ll “end up getting myself in trouble with what I accidentally say”.

“You’ve seen what’s happened to some of my other cast members recently,” the Eclipse actress said.

Reed’s Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart recently admitted she “made an enormous mistake” after being criticised for comparing, in an interview, images of herself being hounded by the paparazzi with those of women being raped.

“It’s unfortunate that everything everyone says gets misinterpreted, but I think things get misinterpreted when you’re looking for a way to find a subtext to what someone is saying,” Reed said of the issue.

“It’s just the nature of this business and being a part of this film.”

Meredith Vieira has spoken about her former The View co-host Barbara Walters, describing her as “an amazing person”.

“I’ve never seen anybody with a constitution like hers,” People magazine reports Vieira commenting.

“She’s like a horse. She eats so much – she’s like a healthy, gorgeous, incredible woman.”

The 80-year-old journalist is currently recovering after having a heart valve replaced last week.

Walters took to Twitter after the surgery to thank fans and reassure them she was on the road to recovery: “Thank u for all good wishes. Very touched. I will be fine.”

A representative of Walters stated last week: “[Her] surgery went well and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome.”

Twitter had previously allowed celebrity impostors as long as it was clear the posts weren’t genuine. But it is trialling a new system to verify famous accounts that posts a small label marked “verified account” and a tick in the case of a genuine celebrity.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher both have verified accounts, as does Elizabeth Taylor, Chris Brown, Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson.

A Twitter spokesman said: “We’re working to establish authenticity, starting with well-known accounts that have had problems with impersonation or identity confusion.”

The crackdown follows a lawsuit mounted by Tony La Russa, an American baseball coach. He took legal action after his name was used in a phony account.

La Russa claimed some impostor posts make fun of the death of two of his players. Twitter for its part claims La Russa has no legal case.

Stars William Shatner, Christopher Walken and Ewan McGregor have impostors with tens of thousands of followers. Almost any big name star has a handful of phoney Twitter accounts. Katie Holmes is a good example.

The fake Twitter accounts imagine the life of the star and include posts that are factually accurate in some cases, having been taken from newsites.

Demi Moore and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton have argued on Twitter over the actress’s daughter.

Moore has bashed Perez for what she believes to be exploitative posts sexualising 15-year-old Tallulah Willis.

One of the 46-year-old’s tweets refers to a photo of Tallulah posted on Perez’s site. She said: “Let me ask all of you, what is it called when someone is telling people to look and focus on a child’s ‘boobs & ass’ while providing photos?”

The wife of actor Aston Kutcher added: “Clearly Perez Hilton isn’t taking violating child pornography laws very seriously. He might not but there are a lot of people who do!”

Perez, 31, responded by saying: “Look at her Tweets. SHE is the one breaking the law with her libelous, defamatory, inaccurate and stupid allegations.”

The mum-of-one, who has starred in films such as Fantastic Four and Sin City, has posted a message on her MySpace page but wouldn’t reveal many details about the upcoming work.

She said: "Thanks so much for all of your messages. They’re always so sweet. I have been working hard on a few new projects that I think you guys will hopefully love.

"I am really trying to push myself beyond my comfort zone. Will come back soon and post more details…"

Jessica, 28, married partner Cash Warren in May last year and their daughter Honor was born less than a month later.

The actress admitted she hasn’t had time to start a Twitter page just yet.

She said: "In the meantime, I’ve been getting a few questions from you about Twitter. Honor keeps me a little too busy to tweet right now, but Cash signed up and is quite addicted."
