American Pie star Tara Reid split from her fiance because she didn’t want to sign a pre-nuptial agreement.

This is the shocking claim made by Reid’s potential father-in-law in a new interview.

Reid had been scheduled to marry internet entrepreneur Michael Axtmann in May after a whirlwind engagement.

But the couple called off the ceremony at the last minute, with Michael later confirming he and the 34-year-old star split because of ‘legal reasons’.

Now his father, German businessman Siegfried Axtmann, has revealed it was his insistence on the contract that sparked the end of their romance.

Siegfried – who employs his son in his business that rents private jets – revealed to German broadcaster RTL Television: “I didn’t want an American court disdaining our family business and have a cuckoo’s egg laid in our nest.”

Just a month before cancelling her wedding, Reid had been speaking out about her big day and how she would look like a ‘princess’.

She said: “I’m going to look like a princess. I just picked out the designer – It’s Rani from St. Pucchi, and she’s like the most incredible wedding designer in the world, in my opinion. I want my wedding to look like a wonderland. I want it to blow people away – and also to have a fun energy.”

Simon Cowell confirmed his engagement on a US talk show – and even brought on his fiancé for a kiss.

Simon Cowell initially squirmed in his seat as Tonight Show host Jay Leno quizzed him on his relationship with makeup artist Mezghan Hussainy.

“Are rumours you’re engaged true?” Leno asked Cowell.

After pausing to think about his answer, Cowell replied: “Are they true? Well, I do have somebody in my life now, Jay, yes. And I kinda made a decision this year to make somebody happy. It is called giving back.”

Cowell received a huge ovation from the studio audience after confirming the news he will marry Hussainy.

Leno then spotted Hussainy, 36, at the side of the stage and invited her on.

After shaking hands with Leno and giving Cowell a kiss, Hussainy made her apologies and left.

Asked about starting a family, Cowell said: “I’m kind of torn because I’m a bit too old to have kids, but then again I think it would be important to have lots of [veresions of] me around in the future.”

“He designed the whole thing,” she said. “He’s a designer. It was a complete surprise, but I’m terrible at making decisions, so I’m thrilled that he designed it. I love it.”

Krakowski, 41, announced her engagement to Godley last month after the clothing designer caught her off guard and proposed over Christmas.

But the 30 Rock star said their wedding plans are only in the very early stages and still have a long way to go.

“We haven’t made any choices yet,” she said. “We’re just collecting ideas now.”

Reese Witherspoon has been spotted with a sparkler on her ring finger, fuelling rumours she and Jake Gyllenhaal are betrothed.

Witherspoon was seen in casual dress with a gold diamond ring on her left ring finger. A representative for the actress, however, said it is merely decorative.

The actress was seen over summer holidaying in Europe with Gyllenhaal, who appears besotted with the divorced mother of two.

Witherspoon was formerly married to actor Ryan Phillippe. In recent days she has been seen out and about with her daughter Ava, who appears to be growing into the spitting image of her mum.

Initially a romcom star, Witherspoon is these days one of Hollywood’s top-earning actresses and is known for her dramatic performance in Walk the Line.

The Addams Family star is 17 inches shorter than husband-to-be Owen Benjamin.

And on a trip to the movies in Los Angeles earlier this month, one confused lady assumed the size difference meant she was his daughter.

An insider said: “This older woman smiled at Christina and said, ‘Your father is very handsome and such a gentleman.’

“But instead of correcting the woman, she said, ‘Yes, he sure is great! Aren’t you, Dad?’”

And at 29, 5ft 1ins tall Ricci is actually a year OLDER than her actor-director partner, who towers over her at 6ft 6ins.

The pair met on the set of film All’s Faire in Love, and confirmed their engagement in March.
