Roman Polanski launched a third bid for bail in Switzerland, where he is being held for 30-year-old US charges for unlawful sex with a minor.

US authorities are reportedly moving to extradite the Oscar-winning fugitive director to face charges in Los Angeles that he had sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

The Swiss Criminal Court declined to comment but the Justice Ministry said it was an offer that the government has already turned down in part because it lacked a cash guarantee.

Folco Galli of the Swiss Justice Ministry said it was an appeal of a release request that was rejected last week.

Two earlier bail requests from Polanski were rejected on the basis that his flight risk was too high. Polanski is asking for the Swiss court to reverse the government’s decision.

He was detained when he travelled to Zurich to attend a film festival at which he was to be presented an achievement award.
